Cerebral Palsy Community Day

Connect with community partners, and meet our team as well other families while enjoying food and activities for the entire family. There will be health screenings, adaptive creative, wellness, and sports activities for all ages, and a special performance by the neurodiverse vocal ensemble Cambridge Common Voices.

CP Community Day will be held at Haven Plaza, a beautiful accessible outdoor space on the Columbia University Irving Medical Center campus. Admission is free.

Scheduled Activities

• Lunch on the Plaza
  • No summertime event is complete without truck food and ice cream. Enjoy lunch while coasting through our activities. 
• Meet & Greet
  • Icebreaker Bingo - Get to know our team and a chance to win some cool prizes.
  • PFAC Ambassadors - Our Patient Family Advisory Council (PFAC) are a wealth of knowledge. They’re here to share experience and resources with you. 
• Creative
  • Enjoy arts and crafts activities for all.
• Wellness & Sports
  • Visit the Columbia Programs in Physical Therapy booth where therapists will be conducting foot and spine screenings.
  • Look out for the Columbia Programs in Occupational Therapy team for some fun sensory processing and functional mobility activities.
  • Learn about adaptive rock climbing and some cool knot tying techniques from the ParaCliffHangers.
  • Chat to CP Soccer youth players for opportunities in team sports and summer camps.
  • Shoot some hoops with the Tri-Boro Legends wheelchair basketball crew.
• Informational Tabling
  • Connect with CP partners and community resources.
  • Learn how research at the Movement Recovery Lab translates to clinical research to recover movment.
  • Find out about research opportunities for the CP community from Columbia Teachers College.
• Singing Performance
  • Enjoy a special performance by the neurodiverse vocal ensemble, Cambridge Common Voices
• Seated Yoga
  • Stretch and relax with certified Accessible Yoga Instructor Elisabeth Bates, CPNP, from the Department of Rehabilitation and Regenerative Medicine. Elisabeth will incorporate a brief meditation followed by a seated yoga practice to relief upper body tension. Modifications will be made for each posture.
• CP Soccer Clinic
  • US Men's CP National Team forward Shea Hammond hosts a CP Soccer clinic and answers questions on his journey to becoming a national level athlete.
